When you have edited a picture on a photo editor, you have been given choices on what "file type" would you like to save it. A file type is a extension given to an object that determines the nature of it. What am I talking about is the acronyms after the dot of your object's file name. For example, when you have saved a text document via Microsoft Office Word(R) 2007 or later, it will saved on a "docx" format. Or maybe when you edited a picture on Windows' Paint, you might have saved it on a "bmp" format. These determines "what" is the file and associating it to another program. Suppose, you would open our example in another word processing program or post it in a social networking site, respectively, they would be behaving as they should.
Now, there are many formats designed for specific objects for specific devices. What am I saying is that you can't view a "html" on a simple mobile phone. Some devices has feature to process a file type. Common mobile phones could process mp3, bmp, avi, and even txt files. So, here are some recommendations for you.
AVI file icon
(AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave)
TXT file icon
(TXT as a abbreviation for "text")
MP3 file icon
(MP3 stands for
Motion Picture Expert Group - Layer 3)
Audio:
If you will listen to it on your mobile phone or iPod, it's better to encode it in a MP3 file. It compresses your file effectively. Try this, convert one of your MP3 file to WAV file and compare their sizes! But if it is on your computer's library, it's best to save it in MP3 format
Pictures:
There are several choices in saving a picture. It depends whether how would you use it. If it is for the web, you could use a JPEG or GIF format. For a desktop publishing purpose, you could use the TIFF ( Tagged Image File Format).
Video:
Whenever your file has subtitles, its better to use MKV (Matroska Video). Youtube uses FLV (Flash Video) due to its compression ability. Mobile phones usually enforces 3GP or MP4 formats. DVD files enforces VOB or AVI formats.
